Who uses it

Built for everyday creators

The Design Studio is intentionally general-purpose. Here are the workflows it fits best.

Social media managers

Produce daily Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Facebook content without paying a Canva subscription. Pre-sized templates, brand colors, and quick export keep the daily content engine running.

Small business owners

Design promotional graphics, simple posters, business announcements, and marketing materials in-house — without needing a designer for every small task.

Bloggers and content creators

Create featured images, header graphics, quote cards, and visual content for articles, newsletters, and YouTube thumbnails.

Designers needing quick mockups

Sketch out concepts before committing to Figma or Photoshop. The fast browser-based workflow is ideal for early exploration and client review rounds.

Students and educators

Build presentation slides, infographics, study materials, and project visuals without needing a Pro account on any platform.

Anyone who hates sign-ups

If you have ever been blocked from a free design tool by an account gate, an email confirmation, or a credit card requirement, this editor is for you. No account, no email, no friction.

Part of the toolkit

Designed to work with the rest of ToolsWaves

The Design Studio is one part of a broader free toolkit on ToolsWaves. If you are putting together a marketing campaign, a product launch, or a personal project, you will likely use it alongside several of our other free tools. Here is how they fit together in a typical workflow.

Start with a hero or landing page from free landing page templates or one of the GSAP-animated landing pages. Generate the supporting graphics for that page in the Design Studio. Optimize the images you use with our Image Compressor so they load fast. Convert between image formats with the JPG/PNG Converter if your build needs a specific format. Generate placeholder copy with the Lorem Ipsum Generator while you wait for real copy. Then ship the final HTML through our HTML Minifier for production.

For social media specifically, the Social Media Post Maker is a more streamlined version of the Design Studio focused on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube formats. Use the Post Maker when you know exactly what platform you are posting to and want a faster workflow. Use the full Design Studio when you need more flexibility, custom canvas sizes, or multi-layer compositions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the ToolsWaves Design Studio really free?

Yes. The Design Studio is completely free with no sign-up, no credit card, no time limit, and no watermarks on exported designs. Everything works the same way every visit. The site is supported by minimal non-intrusive ads on content pages — never inside the editor itself.

How is this different from Canva?

The biggest practical differences are that the ToolsWaves Design Studio requires no account, your designs never leave your browser, and there is no premium tier — every feature is free. Canva has a larger template library and team collaboration features, but for solo creators, freelancers, and privacy-conscious users, the lighter ToolsWaves editor is often faster to open and finish in.

Can I save my designs and come back to them later?

Yes. Designs are saved to your browser's local storage automatically — your work persists when you refresh the page or come back the next day on the same browser and device. For permanent storage, export your design as PNG, JPG, or SVG and save it locally or to your preferred cloud service. Since nothing is uploaded to our servers, the editor cannot sync across devices the way an account-based tool would.

What file formats can I export?

PNG (recommended for designs with transparency or maximum quality), JPG (recommended when you want smaller file sizes for web use), and SVG (vector format — perfect for logos, icons, or any design you may want to scale or edit in Illustrator or Inkscape later).

Does it work on mobile?

The editor works on tablets and larger mobile devices, but as with most canvas-based design tools, the experience is significantly better on a desktop or laptop with a precise pointing device. For quick mobile edits we recommend our Social Media Post Maker, which is specifically optimized for smaller screens.

Can I use the designs commercially?

Yes. Designs created with the Design Studio are yours to use commercially, including for client work, paid products, and resale. The only caveat is any third-party content you incorporate (stock photos, fonts) — those follow their own licenses. Unsplash and Pexels photos used inside the editor are licensed for commercial use under their respective free-use licenses.

Will my work be lost if my browser crashes?

Designs are autosaved to local storage as you work, so most accidental closes or crashes will not lose your progress. As with any local-only tool, however, we recommend exporting your finished design as soon as you are happy with it — local storage can be cleared by browser settings or by privacy software, so the export is your real backup.

Is this the same as the Social Media Post Maker?

They share the Fabric.js foundation but have different focuses. The Social Media Post Maker is streamlined for quickly producing posts at standard social platform sizes — perfect when you know exactly what you need. The Design Studio is more general-purpose with a wider template library, more shapes, and more layout flexibility — better when you want to design something custom.
